Arithmetic Mean
In simple language Arithmetic Mean is known as Average. The method to calculate the Arithmetic Mean of numbers given in a Table is very simple. First of all we add all the Numbers given in a table then we divide the sum of these numbers with the total numbers available in the table. The solution which we get is the Arithmetic Mean for the numbers in the table. Let's understand how to calculate the arithmetic mean by the example given below-

If in a family of 5 members the age of the members is 5 years, 12 years, 18 years, 34 years and 38 years, then to calculate the arithmetic mean of the age of the family members, first we add the age of all the family members that is 5+12+18+34+38 = 107
after that the total age of the family (107) would be divided by the total members (5) of the family that is 107/5 = 21.4

so 21.4 is the arithmetic mean of the age of family members.
The Formula of the Arithmetic Mean is
x̄ = ΣX/N

The Arithmetic mean is denoted by x̄ (we read it as X bar) .
ΣX means sum of all the numbers.
Σ this sign is called as Sigma, and
N means numbers present in the series.

Question No. 1: The monthly salary of 10 labors in a factory is given below. Calculate the Arithmetic Mean by the given Data.
ΣX = 9140 Rupees
Value of N is 10 as there are 10 labors.

Now we have to put the values in the Formula of Arithmetic Mean,
x̄ = ΣX/N
x̄ = 9140/10
x̄ = 914 Rupees
So with the help of formula the value of Arithmetic Mean would be 914 Rupees.
